Principal News
Dear Families,
Yesterday our interschool swim team participated in the Division B Interschool Swimming
Carnival, collecting a hard-earned 3rd position and pennant. Well done to our Team
Captains and Vice Captains, Addison B, Charlotte M, Nick D, Sophie B and Sam S on their exceptional leadership of the team, and to all of the students for participating so credibly in all events. Thank you to Kylie Broadbent for her thorough organisation prior to the event and to Emma Nuttall and those parents who came to support the team on the day.

Genius Hour Presentations
Last week our Year 3-4 classes shared their outstanding 'Genius Hour' projects with the school community. I was immensely proud of the way the children presented research and responded to questions asked of them; demonstrating deep knowledge and understanding across their areas of interest and passion. This opportunity is given to our Year 3-4 students each year and is a highly anticipated, challenging and an exciting time for all involved. It was a joy to attend these sessions, and I would like to thank the 3-4 teaching team for their unwavering focus on developing our children's learning assets through these authentic, student-driven inquiry projects.
Term 4 Student Free Day - Professional Learning for Teachers
The Term 4 PL Day saw our teaching team join together to share their individual and team action research / passion projects across their chosen areas of Wellbeing, Literacy, Inquiry, Numeracy, Citizenship and Agency, and Creativity (all linked to our School Improvment priority #1: Growth for all learners across the domains of wellbeing and learning). Teachers shared new learning, changes they had made to their teaching practice throughout the year as a result of this learning, how they measured the impact these changes had made to student learning outcomes, and then considered what the next steps will be for their professional learning and practise, moving forwards into 2022. Extremely powerful learning for teachers, led by teachers - a marvellous example of how we are using inquiry pedagogies for all learners in our school community!
As part of the day, the teaching team also considered our school vision of developing creative thinkers, connected learners and inspired leaders and reflected on how are we aligning our practice and vision. We asked the question: What do we want the children we teach to be like as adults? and generated a word cloud with our responses (larger font size = greater number of responses).
We noticed that our current practises are also focusing on developing active, informed, empathic citizens who are capable of contributing positively, both locally and globally. I look forward to talking to the school association and the children about our school vision moving forwards, especaily as we review our current school improvement plan and begin planning for 2022.
Please feel free to email me (danielle.bresnehan@educaiton.tas.gov.au) your response to the question: What do we want our children to be like as adults?

TPS Grounds Committee Update

Last Friday the TPS Grounds committee met to discuss and approve a range of exciting projects over the coming months, including installing an Aboriginal Learning Trail with accompanying signage in Play West (supported by TPSA funding), re-developing and extending the EC sandpit area (also supported by TPSA funding) and installing a 'digging area' between middle block and the hub - a student-led inquiry project coordinated by Megan Tubb and Kylie Frost.
We also discussed a current issue that we have regarding lack of storage for the bricks that were removed from Play East when the artificial surface was laid last summer. Unfortunately, with no firm proposals or plans for using these bricks, together with safety concerns for the area of our school site where they are currently being stored, we are seeking community input to determine the best way to remove these bricks, noting that many have names of past teachers, students and family members engraved into them. Please contact the school office via email with your ideas: taroona.primary@education.tas.gov.au

Call for volunteers to support the school’s onsite store in 2022.
The TPS uniform shop is run by volunteers of the school community which allows us to operate a store on campus providing a practical and service for parents and students.
We are calling out for 2-3 people who can offer a very short commitment to help in store on a rotating roster in 2022. The job involves assisting customers and sorting second-hand clothing donations.

All volunteers must hold a valid Working With Vulnerable People Card.
Being involved with the Uniform Shop offers a fantastic opportunity to meet members of our school community.
