Term Dates 2023
Principal News
Welcome to Term 3
This term we look forward to many interesting and exciting events on the school calendar including Science Week, Book Week, Winter Sports, Terrapin Puppet Theatre and New Zealand Playhouse incursions, National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence activities, Maths Olympiad Challenges and the annual Year 1-6 Swimming and Water Safety Program.
Our Student Parliamentarians are also planning some fun activities for students including a cake stall fundraiser and the infamous Taroona’s Got Talent lunchtime performances. Please keep an eye on the school Facebook Page, Schoolzine Calendar and future newsletters for further information and key dates.
AV Upgrade News
The long-awaited AV upgrade in the GP Room was showcased yesterday at our wonderful Celebration of Learning assembly. We have waited many years to have the financial capacity to upgrade the equipment in this space, and now have access to easy-to-use, high-quality visual and audio technologies for our community gatherings.
Thanks to the TPS ICT Team: Tania Glover, Philly Hughes, Jeremy Reid, Pete Nuttall and Duane O’Brien, and to Koby Blizzard and Bianca Long for their support and behind the scenes work to enable this upgrade to be completed.
Grounds Improvements Completed
Children and staff are very excited about the recently completed grounds works that have created new and improved pathways and ramping around middle block and the Design & Technology Hub. Drawing on inspiration from our grounds master plan that was developed with the TPS community in 2015-16, these long-awaited works provide new play opportunities and safer pathway access into classrooms and the hub.
Thank you to Megan Tubb and Kylie Frost who supported our student-led Landcare group during play breaks throughout 2022 to construct the tyre-lined gravel and sandpit space and to Megan and past Year 5-6 students who drew up designs for developing the pathway that has now been installed on the quadrangle corner of Middle Block.
Bianca Long must also be thanked for persevering to find a contractor that was able to complete these works within their busy schedule and our tight budget parameters, and without too much disruption during term time.
Finally, a huge thank you to the TPSA for their upcoming donation, which will cover the small gap between the final invoice and the school’s budget for this project, as well as an additional amount to cover projected ongoing grounds maintenance costs for the remainder of 2023 (e.g. sand, soft fall and mower fuel purchases).
Year 3 & 5 NAPLAN Results are on their Way
Families of Year 3 and 5 students are asked to keep an eye out for NAPLAN reports that will be sent home with students on Frday afternoon.
TPSA Meeting: Tuesday 8 August
A reminder to all parents/carers that you are automatically a member of the TPSA upon the enrolment of your child at TPS. TPSA meetings are held at the school in the Music Room (or online via TEAMs) once a month. An agenda for the next meeting is attached below and I look forward to seeing some new faces at the meeting.
Best wishes

Prep-1
In Prep One Bolzonello/Vincent we have been investigating the fascinating world of materials! We have been exploring what objects are made of and discovering the properties of various materials. We have conducted several STEM challenges to help build our knowledge. These include building a waterproof and windproof house for the Three Little Pigs, building a strong bridge for the Gingerbread Man to cross the river and building waterproof boats for the Three Billy Goats Gruff. We have been collaborators and thinkers by working together in groups to come up with creative designs and working together to bring our ideas to life. Here are some photographs of us engaging in our learning.

5B
5B spent last term exploring the wonderful world of sustainable technologies!
We watched the incredible documentary ‘2040’ (highly recommend if you haven’t seen it already) and explored our own possible solutions to reduce our impact on the earth.
Throughout the term we added to 5 different sections of this Padlet, working independently and collaboratively.
We hope you enjoy it!
You can search for your child’s name in the top right hand corner of the Padlet 😊

Every school day matters campaign
Are you making every school day count?
It’s Term 3 already – welcome back for another term!
As we move through the school year, sometimes regular school attendance can be challenging.
It’s important your child keeps up good attendance habits though.
Going to school every day means your child has every chance to learn, and be around their friends and teachers. Every day adds up, to benefit your child now and in the future.
If you’re having trouble getting your child to school, please talk to us. We’ll listen to your situation, and help in any way we can.
If you’re looking for tips on how to create better attendance habits, visit the Anything can happen website.

Working with Vulnerable People card

- The Tasmanian Department of Justice will assess and process applications and issue the Assessment Notice and Working with Vulnerable People Registration card directly to the applicant. You will receive an email advising of your approval. Please print this and use until your card arrives.
