Principal News
Wow what an exciting two weeks!
Our staff have been working intensely on "Evidences of Learning" and our students displaying their talents in all areas of the curriculum. This school is a fantastic community which I have had the great pleasure to be apart of the last four weeks.
Evidence of Learning
Over the next four weeks, you will notice teachers sharing evidences of learning with families.
These evidences of learning are part of the Department for Education, Children and Young People’s updated reporting process. They will demonstrate what each child has learned about a particular topic and provide feedback on how they can improve in the future.
A range of evidences of learning will be shared over the course of the year, along with our usual mid-year and end of year reporting.
Interschool Cross Country
It has been an exciting two weeks where our students have competed brilliantly in the cross country with exceptional performances across all year levels, particularly noteworthy performances from Ella, Bonnie and the Year 6 Girls - 2nd place, Year 5 Girls - 1st place and Year 4 Boys - 2nd place.
Felicity West - New AST/ Support Teacher
We are very excited to have Felicity West working with us as our new AST and Support Teacher. Felicity comes with a wealth of experience from South Hobart Primary School. We look forward to her sharing her great knowledge and supporting our children as they take on the challenges that school can at times bring.
This will be my final newsletter and I would just like to thank the staff and students of Taroona Primary School for their support during my time as Acting Principal.
Best wishes
Pete Walker

Warm and Snuggly Day
Student Parliament Representatives have organised ‘Warm and Snuggly Day’ for this Friday 16 June. Students across the school are invited to wear their most ‘snuggliest’ clothes – this may include PJ’s, slippers, oodies, tracksuits and furry comfort clothes. This is a fundraiser for The Salvation Army, to support their Winter Appeal for those local individuals doing it tough as the weather gets colder. Students are encouraged to bring a gold coin donation to donate to this worthy cause. We thank the Student Parliament group for considering those in the community who may need help.

Working with Vulnerable People card
To volunteer at this school, you will be required to hold “Registration to Work with Vulnerable People”. This is mandatory.
HOW DO I APPLY FOR RWVP?
- Complete the online application form. This is available from the website below
- Choose Department of Education from the organisation drop down box. Select Taroona Primary School from the location drop-down box.
- Print the ‘application receipt’ which is generated when the application has been completed in full (if you do not have access to a printer, record the reference number and take that to a Service Tasmania Shop).
- Take the ‘application Receipt’ to a Service Tasmania Shop, have your photo taken and have your identity confirmed. You will need to satisfy the identity requirements. A driver’s licence will do this if it displays your correct name and address. The cost is $20.40
- The Tasmanian Department of Justice will assess and process applications and issue the Assessment Notice and Working with Vulnerable People Registration card directly to the applicant. You will receive an email advising of your approval. Please print this and use until your card arrives.
Generally, applicants will receive their results within six weeks of completing the application process. There may be delays, however, depending on the applicant’s personal information.
Winter Wellness
The cooler months bring colds, the flu, COVID-19 and other illnesses. Being prepared is the best way to protect yourself and your family.
Prepare
Children are most likely to catch and spread the flu. Make sure your child has received their annual flu vaccine. This will boost their immunity against most likely circulating flu strains. It will also help stop them getting very sick.
Plan
If your child is at higher risk of becoming very sick from the flu, COVID-19 or other respiratory illnesses, make a plan with your healthcare provider for when your child becomes sick.
Protect
Protect others by keeping your child home if they’re unwell, encouraging regular hand washing, and covering coughs and sneezes.
Thanks for doing your part to keep our school community safe, healthy and learning.

School Levies 2023 - Now Overdue!
Thank you to all those families who have paid their school levies or set up payment plan.
If you are experiencing difficulties with payment please contact Bianca Long, our School Business Manager, to discuss your individual case and implement a payment plan.
STAS 2023 (Student Assistance)
STAS application forms are to be issued to families who have not applied for, or been in receipt of, STAS in 2022 which includes families who are new enrolments and who believe they meet the eligibility criteria, or families whose circumstances have changed, and they believe they may now be eligible. The eligibility criteria means that if a parent holds a current Centrelink Health Care Card, Pension Concession Card or Department of Veterans' Affairs Concession Card they are eligible to apply for STAS.
Families can also apply online on the Department's web page at Student Assistance Scheme (STAS)
Please note: parents/guardians cannot apply again online if they have received STAS in 2022. If a parent/guardian wishes to add a newly enrolling student to their STAS file (i.e., a Kinder student) they simply need to email their name and the student's full name, date of birth, grade and school they'll be attending in 2023 to stas@decyp.tas.gov.au
Kinder 2024 Enrolments Now Open
Our school is starting to look at enrolments for Kindergarten 2024 (born in 2019) from families within our school catchment area. We encourage all families with children who will be starting Kindergarten in 2024 to fill in their details via the form link below.

Student Behaviour Management Policy

Taroona Primary School, along with all other Tasmanian Government schools, is committed to providing your child with a learning environment that supports them to be the best they can be. We work hard to provide safe, supportive and inclusive environments where your child can engage positively with their learning.
To strengthen the way that schools prevent and respond to bullying, from Term one 2023, all
Tasmanian Government schools will adopt and implement the Student Behaviour Management
policy. This policy replaces the existing Respectful Student Behaviour Policy.
The important change between the old policy and the new policy is that now all schools will have the same minimum standards for preventing and responding to bullying. The new policy also has a clear definition of what bullying is, and sets clear expectations for how we support students impacted by bullying.
These changes mean the way Taroona Primary School prevents and responds to bullying will meet the same standards as all other Tasmanian Government Schools. Some schools may incorporate different programs or measures to respond to bullying, but all will have the same foundation.
For more information, please see the Staying Safe in Tasmanian Government Schools parent fact sheet at
the below link. You can also talk to your child’s teacher or our Principal, Danielle Bresnehan, to find out more.
