Principal News
Dear Families,
Thank you once again for your suport during these busy times. As anticipated, the impact of COVID19 within the Taroona school community is now increasing, and there have been regular communications from the school over these past two weeks regarding positive cases across a number of classes. Thank you for your ongoing vigilance in testing your children and keeping them at home if symptoms are present. Please don't hesitate to contact the office at any time to arrange collection of more Rapid Anitgen Tests.
Updated TPS Vision - Creative thinkers, respectful collaborators, courageous learners, empowered citizens.
Thankyou to everyone who provided input into updating our school vision. Throughout the past 6 months, we have engaged in rich conversations with staff, students and community members about what we are striving to achieve for our learners, including our hopes and aspirations for them as they progress through their learning here at Taroona Primary School. The updated vision statement empahsises our desire to develop children as empowered citizens of the future; a goal that directly aligns with our current focus on teaching and supporting the development of our Tarona Primary School Learner Assets of being thinkers, communicators, researchers, collaborators and self-managers. We look forward to sharing more with you on this topic in the coming months.

National Ride to School Day
Thank you to all families who supported last Friday's Move Well Eat Well event for Term 1 - National Ride to School Day. A special mention must be made of our student leaders who recorded participation upon arrival at school, Emma Nuttall for her vigilance in coordinating the parking and security of bikes and scooters onsite, and to Lipscombe Larder who donated the apples enjoyed when children arrived.
Interschool Athletics Carnival: Disision B First Place
Last Tuesday, Adrian and I had the pleasure of acompanying our Year 3-6 athletics team to the Divison B interschool carnival where our school was awarded first place. All of the Taroona Primary School values were on display throughout the day, especially resilience, collaboration and excellence, as the athletes managed changeable weather conditions and supported each other to participate to the best of their ability. Congratulations to everyone involved in the carnival, inlcuding our parent helpers Jan, Kate and Chris, Adrian our PE teacher, and Athletics Team Captains Maielle S and Duncan H and Vice Captains Elsie O and Molly O. Please note that the Champions Carnival is being postponed to Term 2, with a potential date of Thursday May 12. The State Athletics Carnival in Launceston has been postponed until Term 4.
Swimming and Water Safety Program (SWSP) @ Collegiate Pool
This week, Year 3-6 students started their 10-day SWSP program at Collegiate pool. Students have already shown much improvement in their skill development over these first three days and we look forward to seeing great progress by the end of the program. Next week, Year 1-2 students will participate in their 5-day SWSP program and are already talking excitedly about what they will learn at the pool. A reminder to parents that swimming often requires more energy than normal days and packing additional healthy foods in lunchboxes to fuel up bodies will be important during this time.
School Photos in 2 weeks
A reminder to all families that school photo day is Tuesday 5 April (see below for more information).
Stay safe and best wishes

COVID-19 Information
COVID-19 symptoms to look out for
Thank you to our entire school community for your cooperation this term by practising COVID-safe behaviours.
As you know, an important COVID-safe behaviour is to stay at home if you’re unwell and get tested for COVID-19 using a rapid antigen test.
Public Health tells us that the number of cases of COVID-19 in children is low, and they’re likely to have milder symptoms.
It’s a good reminder to be mindful of the symptoms of COVID-19 in children. The most common symptoms of COVID-19 in children are cough, fever, runny nose and gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
For more information, please visit the Tasmanian Government Coronavirus website or contact the Tasmanian Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738, or Department of Education COVID-19 Support Hotline at COVID19support@education.tas.gov.au or on 1800 816 057.
If you need support translating or interpreting this information, please contact the Translating and Interpreting Service on 131 450.
Kinder A
3-4A
3/4A has been discovering what it is like to be a scientist. We looked at the properties of different substances and discussed how they could be classified as solids, liquids and gases. However, some of the substances we looked at where a bit harder to classify, like toothpaste and shaving cream. We then found an even harder substance to classify – Oobleck.
Oobleck is made from a mix of corn flour and water. It sometimes behaves like a liquid and sometimes behaves like a solid. We had lots of fun (and mess) playing with this Non-Newtonian fluid.

Taroona Awards
Congratulations to the following students who recieved an award at our first online assembly!
Excellence: Lucas P, Norah N, Maddie H & Magnolia O
Respect: Ihan R & Astrid H

Harmony Week 2022
2022 Student Parliament representatives were out in the sunshine and fresh air last week, enjoying their first meeting this year as a complete Year 3-6 team. They also took the time to ensure Harmony Day was recognised and celebrated.

Zones of Regulation
Taroona Primary School uses the Zones of Regulation® framework for teaching strategies for emotional and sensory self-management. The Zones approach uses four colours to help students identify how they are feeling in the moment, given their emotions and level of alertness, as well as guide them to strategies to support regulation. By understanding how to notice their body’s signals, detect triggers, read social context and consider how their behaviour impact those around them, students learn improved emotional control, sensory regulation, self-awareness, and problem-solving abilities.
The Red Zone is used to describe extremely heightened states of alertness and intense emotions. A person may be elated, euphoric, or experiencing anger, rage, explosive behaviour, devastation, or terror when in the Red Zone.
The Yellow Zone is also used to describe a heightened state of alertness and elevated emotions, however individuals have more control when they are in the Yellow Zone. A person may be experiencing stress, frustration, anxiety, excitement, silliness, the wiggles, or nervousness when in the Yellow Zone.
The Green Zone is used to describe a calm state of alertness. A person may be described as happy, focused, content, or ready to learn when in the Green Zone. This is the zone where optimal learning occurs.
The Blue Zone is used to describe low states of alertness and down feelings such as when one feels sad, tired, sick, or bored.
All of the zones are natural to experience, but the framework focuses on teaching students how to recognize and manage their zone based on the demands of their environment and the people around them.
Learn more in the article, All the Zones are OK! Tips for Managing the Zones You’re In or visit the Social Thinking Website for additional information: https://www.socialthinking.com/Products/zones-of-regulation-curriculum

Thank you to our parent helpers over the Athletics period. Kris Clauson, Kate Brown and Jan McDonald were fabulous. A big thank you to Ms Bresnehan and Adrian for their work today and in the lead up to the event.
