Kids in Space Showcase
What an amazing event, held today in our GP Room, with judges from interstate and The University of Tasmania joining students and teachers from 8 Tasmanian primary schools to determine the state winner of the Kids in Space Program run by the Andy Thomas Space Foundation, The Australian Space Agency and Makers Empire.
With Tania Glover’s enthusiasm, and support from Philly Hughes, our school has been involved in this pioneering new program designed to deliver education and awareness of the opportunities in space careers to Australian primary school-aged children.
We were thrilled today when Finn and Nahuel’s project was award the peer prize at the end of the judging.
Congratulations to all of the children in Year 5-6 who have engaged so eagerly in this project during Design and Technologies lessons, and to Tania, the Y5-6 teaching team and office administration staff for ensuring today’s event was an outstanding success for all involved. More information about this program can be found at Kids In Space | Makers Empire
Late Arrival Procedure
A reminder for families of children arriving after 8:50am,when daily fitness is underway and classroom doors are locked, that each child needs to be signed in at the front office following our late arrival procedure. This ensures that duty of care is correctly transferred from families to the school, and children can be supported by staff to find their class / daily fitness group. Thank you for your support in this safety matter.
Congratulations to our Year 5-6 Debating Teams
Our debating students completed their roster on Monday afternoon with the much-awaited impromptu debate. The topic involved children and junk food advertising with our students rising to the challenge of preparing convincing arguments within the 30-minute preparation timeframe, some teams winning the debate with much acclaim.
A huge thankyou to Alanna Carne who has worked with our teams this term and to those teachers and families who supported the children and their efforts.
Mid-year Reports are on their Way
Prep-Year 6 teachers have been busy finalising reports for families as per the Departments 2023 Assessment and Reporting Guidelines. This celebration of your child’s achievement is developed through collaboration between class teachers and specialists. Please keep an eye out for your child’s mid-year report in their bag this Friday afternoon (June 30).
Best wishes

Prep
In English, Prep have been focussing on retelling traditional fairy tales. Last week we wrote letters to Goldilocks letting her know that we weren't very happy about her coming into our classroom and messing up our Three Bears Cottage. Goldilocks replied to us with an apology letter, and a big pot of porridge to share. It was delicious!
5A
Year 5A students participated in 'From Gumnuts to Buttons' last week - a visual story telling of the history of lutruwita (Tasmania) starting from prior to colonisation, the colonisation era, to the present day. It is powerful, confronting and engaging content. Incredible learning for the students who were able to participate in the storytelling from a First Nations perspective. Students were respectful and got a lot from this to support our 5A inquiry looking at 'terra nullius' and Australian identity in HaSS. Topics included ownership, Country, treaty and discrimination. Well done to all 5A students who engaged with this program throughout the afternoon.

- The Tasmanian Department of Justice will assess and process applications and issue the Assessment Notice and Working with Vulnerable People Registration card directly to the applicant. You will receive an email advising of your approval. Please print this and use until your card arrives.
Generally, applicants will receive their results within six weeks of completing the application process. There may be delays, however, depending on the applicant’s personal information.
Winter Wellness
The cooler months bring colds, the flu, COVID-19 and other illnesses. Being prepared is the best way to protect yourself and your family.
Prepare
Children are most likely to catch and spread the flu. Make sure your child has received their annual flu vaccine. This will boost their immunity against most likely circulating flu strains. It will also help stop them getting very sick.
Plan
If your child is at higher risk of becoming very sick from the flu, COVID-19 or other respiratory illnesses, make a plan with your healthcare provider for when your child becomes sick.
Protect
Protect others by keeping your child home if they’re unwell, encouraging regular hand washing, and covering coughs and sneezes.
Thanks for doing your part to keep our school community safe, healthy and learning.
